Alex is an incredibly active member of the climbing community, both locally and nationally.
At her home gym, Vertical Endeavors in St. Paul, MN, Alex was involved with coaching the youth team before moving to Colorado where she volunteered with young climbers at local gyms, including the nationally-ranked Team ABC out of Boulder, CO.
In 2011 Alex helped PCI (Pro Climbers International) develop nation-wide youth and adult clinic programs. These clinics focus on training tips, improving technique, competition strategy, and give young athletes a chance to climb with their favorite pro’s. Alex has taught almost a dozen clinics with PCI since this series began.
At global events like the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) World Cups, when she's not on the wall, Alex commentates for the live event coverage on IFSC.tv, reaching up to 30,000 online viewers during broadcasts.
Alex has been involved in public speaking for years, giving her first climbing demonstration to a local elementary school at the age of fourteen. Now, Alex's public speaking is on a larger scale, giving slide shows, talks, and presentations at Universities, sales meetings, fundraisers, and other events.
In 2012 Alex became an athlete ambassador for The Access Fund, an organization devoted to the preservation of climbing areas around the country. Alex also supports the Minnesota Climbers Association, a local organization devoted to the preservation of her hometown climbing areas.
Along with the Access Fund, Alex supports an organization that speaks for itself: Climbers Against Cancer. This year she participated in the creation of a 2014 CAC Calendar with ten other professional women climbers to raise money for charity.
For the last three years at the Youth National Championships Alex has been given the honor of presenting The North Face “Young Gun” Award to a young climber who has prominently displayed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season.
